I'm such a slacker........I know.......

Okay...so I know that I haven't written about Christmas but my life has moved on so I will have to come back to that later...I am all student teaching now. I have been at the school everday this week and since Tuesday, I didn't leave the school before 5 every night. But...I love it! So if I am not social for awhile I apologize but my time, thoughts and energy now belong to 25 wonderful little first graders. Here is an excerpt from my ASU blog entry:

Wow, what a week! I don't think I have ever been this tired while at the same time being so excited! Needless to say, I have fallen in love with my little first grade class and my mentor is amazing. She is so creative and organized that it makes learning in her classroom a breeze for me. I am going to include some pictures of the mural that she is painting in the library. It's so awesome! This week I took over oral literature, attendance and lines. I felt so official walking through the halls with her class. Also, I was able to attend a faculty meeting and an IEP meeting. Both were interesting and definitely a great experience. One funny thing that happened was one of my students came up to me the first day and gave me a hug. Then, he said "Salutations!" So cute! In addition to the duties that I took on in the classroom, I got to put up a new bulletin board. So I am including pictures of that! I am looking forward to another week.

It says the year of the super student across the top. Then, the balloons say Happy New Year and under each balloon there is a writing page. The students colored the balloons and wrote a New Years resolution. Very Fun!

Another closeup to show you how I made this center part. I cut a hole in the middle and then cut triangles at each angle. Next, I folded them back and glue them down. Afterwards, I added some spiraling ribbons.

The whole mural is the going to be the Happy Unbirthday of Alice In Wonderland. On this part of the wall, she has painted Clifford, the house of the Berenstain Bears and Lily (just to point out a few).

Here is a another part of the wall. There is the Magic School Bus and Harry Potter. Lori (my mentor) is so talented! Can you believe she painted these free hand! Awesome!

Hey! I've been meaning to call you and wish you luck with your student teaching. I'm such a slacker as a friend. Sorry. I hope you had a great Christmas. We've missed you guys. I hope one of these days when you get a break from your busy schedule we can plan a night out. It's been way too long.

It's like you're a real teacher now Elise! Did you ever think you'd be here? (I knew you would, but it seems to take forever.) We just found your blog last night so it's fun to see what you guys are up to. I'm glad that you're enjoying teaching so much and hope that you continue to do so. I'm really glad that you found a mentor teacher who helps you enjoy teaching. Don't lose your optimism and enthusiasm!!
